Nature Unlocked

Behind the scenes, Pearcelands Wood plays a vital role in our Nature Unlocked research, as scientists investigate the solutions that nature holds to key issues such as biodiversity loss and climate change.

Using the landscape as an example of native woodland, we’ve taken soil samples to discover how fungi play a role in carbon storage, measured the flow of carbon dioxide with gas flux monitors and flown high-tech drones get the full picture of carbon storage. As part of our ground-breaking wellbeing research, we also led children on guided walks through Pearcelands Wood, to compare their connection to nature in different habitats.
